Three-Legged Missie’s Owner Rejected Her — Now She’s the Happiest Dog Ever!

Six months ago, Missie was left heartbroken and injured after losing one of her legs. Today, she’s living her best life in a loving home that finally sees her for the beautiful soul she is.

A Call for Help

About half a year ago, 4Paws Animal Shelter received a distress call from a man in Diepsloot, a township in South Africa. His small brown dog, later named Missie, had reportedly been hit by a speeding car.

Despite her devastating injuries, Missie managed to drag herself all the way back home, desperate for help.

When the 4Paws inspectors arrived, they immediately rushed her to the vet. The outlook was grim, her bones were shattered in multiple places, and her right front leg was beyond repair.

Fighting to Walk Again

The vets performed an emergency amputation surgery, which thankfully went well. But Missie’s recovery wasn’t easy.

“[She] would sit by the door, whimpering softly, confused by the absence of [her] limb”, the 4Paws team shared. “But day by day, step by shaky step, [she] learned to walk again.”

With patience, love, and determination, Missie slowly began to find her balance, both physically and emotionally.

Heartbreak: Rejected by Her Owner

When Missie was finally strong enough to return home, the rescue team brought her back to her owner. But instead of joy, they were met with rejection.

“When we tried to take her back, her owner said they ‘had no need for a dog with three legs’”, 4Paws recalled. “Our hearts broke for her… but that’s when we knew she was meant for something greater.”

Missie’s story could have ended there, but fate had other plans.

A Second Chance at Happiness

Three months after being rescued, Missie’s luck finally changed. She found a forever home with a family that didn’t see her as broken, they saw her as perfect.

“She came into our care and soon after that found the most amazing home”, 4Paws shared joyfully. “A family who saw her not as broken, but as perfect, and named her Missie.”

Missie’s New Life

Just three months later, Missie has blossomed into one of the happiest dogs you’ll ever see.

Photos shared by her new family show her running on the beach, playing joyfully, and even winning awards, she recently scored 97% in her obedience class!

It’s hard not to smile seeing how far she’s come, from pain and rejection to pure love and happiness.

The Happy Ending She Deserved

Missie’s journey is a reminder that true beauty and strength come from within. Once unwanted for her “imperfection”, she’s now the picture of joy, loved, cherished, and thriving.

“She’s endured unimaginable pain”, 4Paws wrote, “but today, she’s living proof that love heals all wounds.”
